There are a number of ways to get involved as a volunteer with Scouting. It all depends on what your interests are and how much time you would like to donate. Here is a brief sampling of roles you may take on.

Section Scouter

This is by far the most common role. You are working with youth on a weekly bases and get to have a direct impact on their development. To learn more about becoming a leader click here.

Group Committee Member

Section Scouters are supported by a team of people within their group. This is may be the role for you if you are unable to attend weekly meetings. Roles may include: popcorn coordinator, registrar, treasurer, secretary, quarter master or sponsor rep.The committee is co-chaired by the group commissioner, group administrator and group youth commissioner. Let one of them know what your skills are and I'm sure they can find a way to help.

Events and multi-group camps

Every year there are a number of area and council camps and events that are planned and run by hard working volunteers. They are always looking for more help. Check out the list of events to find the primary contact of an event you are interested in. If you would like to start a new event visit talk to your area commissioner.

Training Teams

We have two training teams in Saskatchewan, one for leader development and one for youth training. Click here for leader development or here for youth training to view their pages.

Council Teams

If there is a task you would like to see done at the council level AND you (or someone you know) has the passion to do it let us know. We would be happy to have you as a deputy area/council (youth) commissioner or less formally as a support Scouter depending on the task.

You'll notice that we did not use the word adult on this page. That is because most of these roles can be filled by any youth with the maturity level to do it. Scouting is a youth movement after all. In fact there are a few positions reserved for youth members just as there are a few positions that must be filled by someone 18+.
