Klondike hike is fast approaching and groups need to start thinking about attending and making teams, we will also need some volunteers to help run events to make this a success.

Klondike hike is a winter challenge that involves scouts and ventures and now girl guides with 5-7 youth per team. It involves scouting skills in a series of checkpoints spread over five kilometers. Each checkpoint tests a different winter skill:

  • Ice rescue
  • Knots and lashing
  • Shelter building
  • First aid
  • Fire lighting
  • Gorge crossing
  • Alaskan climb
  • Canoeing preparedness
  • Survival

Survival Points are awarded at each checkpoint according to the degree of skill demonstrated by the team. Prizes will be awarded for the top three teams and for best sleigh design.

The event will be held on February 17/ 2018 Where: Dallas Valley, SK. When: Registration at 8:30 event starting at 9 ending around 5

Cost: $25 for the day includes badge, hot dog, drink and cake Overnight is available for Friday night which will include breakfast the next day but all groups Will be still responsible for the youths lunch the next day. There is a fridge to put food in for lunch items for the next day. The total cost for over night plus Registration fee is $45
