Area Support Manager (ASM) - Saskatchewan Council

Scouts Canada is seeking an Area Support Manager in the Saskatchewan Council.
 
We invite you to consider joining our team to help create a better world through delivering Scouts Canada’s mission of youth education, social awareness and environmental stewardship. Your role will focus on recruitment, retention, orientation, and coaching volunteers in the 9 areas in Saskatchewan.
 
In addition to servicing communities where Scout Groups are already established the Area Support Manager will directly support Scouts Canada’s priority of initiating and maintaining groups in First Nations and other diverse communities.  You will have a demonstrated cultural awareness and experience with recruiting community leaders, adult volunteers and youth members.
 

Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Council Executive Director and working in partnership with Council and Area leadership teams, you will support the achievement of organizational objectives and volunteer support outcomes by:
 
  • Collaboratively developing and implementing a plan for volunteer recruitment, support, and territory capacity building  that will ensure delivery of consistent, high quality youth programs.
  • Through proactive visits and communication, establish and maintain positive relationships with Council, Area, Group, and Section leadership teams.
  • Facilitating compliance with organizational policies pertaining to member registration, volunteer screening, and program safety.
  • Through regular contact, encourage and support Area and Group teams to meet and exceed volunteer support and program standards. 
  • Establishing oneself as a key resource for program knowledge, organizational policies, and the Volunteer Support Strategy.
  • Increasing awareness and visibility of Scouting in the assigned territory (Service Areas).
  • Strategically identifying and working locally to leverage growth prospects while ensuring effective sustainment of the existing membership base.
We are looking for the ideal candidate who possesses the following:
 

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in a related field combined with 2-5 years of related job experience
  • Experience working with volunteers and leading volunteer programs.    
  • Knowledge of business planning and volunteer management approaches
  • Passion for Scouts Canada’s mission
  • Knowledge of Scouts Canada’s Bylaw, Policies and Procedures, programs and organizational structure preferred
  • Strong technical skills and proficient in Microsoft Office and database systems

  • Strong initiative and self-direction combined with a desire to achieve results with and through people
  • Outstanding written & oral communications and presentation skills
  • Solid planning and organizational skills and thrive in a fast paced environment
  • A people person with strong interpersonal skills and enjoy networking with people and building relationships with community leaders towards developing partnerships with Scouting 
  • Ability and desire to embrace and manage change. Able to deal with ambiguity effectively.
 

Other Details:

  • Home office and you must reside in or around Regina or Saskatoon
  • As a “mobile manager”, the ASM will be provided with the most current technology including laptop computer, smart phone and high-speed Internet. 
  • Flexible work hours and will include evening and weekend responsibilities.
  • Travel is required along with strong time management skills are required.
  • Must possess a valid Saskatchewan drivers licence and provide own vehicle. Mileage allowance will be provided.
